Welcome to the Exercise Manager support page. We're here to help you get the most out of our project management application. Below you will find various ways to get assistance and resources to solve any issues you may encounter.
How exercise packs and exercises work together
This is the question we get asked most often, so it's worth being explicit about how the two relate.
When you create an exercise from a pack, the exercise references the pack's content rather than copying it. That has practical consequences worth knowing before you start editing.
What flows through automatically
If you edit any of the following on the pack, the change appears in every exercise using that pack — including exercises that are already scheduled or in progress:
- The pack's description, objectives, scenario, and scenario description
- The debriefing notes
- Any interaction's title, dialogue, background, objectives, role player notes, or facilitator notes
- Any media report's headline, agency, byline, lede, body, or facilitator notes
- Voice settings on AI-voice interactions
This is normally what you want — a typo fix on a pack applies everywhere — but it does mean editing a pack mid-engagement can change content the team is actively looking at. If an exercise is running, edit carefully or wait until it's complete.
What does not flow through automatically
- New interactions or media reports. If you add a new serial to a pack, it only appears in exercises created after the change. Existing exercises won't pick it up.
- Deleted serials. Removing a serial from a pack while exercises are using it can leave those exercises in an awkward state. Prefer to skip the serial in delivery rather than delete it from the pack.
- Per-exercise overrides. When a facilitator configures the From name, role player, or recipients on a serial inside an exercise, those overrides stay put. Editing the pack's From field won't replace what the facilitator already set.
When you open the edit form for a pack, interaction, or media report that's in use by active exercises, Exercise Manager will show a heads-up reminding you which case you're in.
